How we got here

"Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start" ~ Julie Andrews

It was a dark and stormy afternoon. Jason and I were tired of being stuck in the house and decided we might as well get our groceries for the week. A few miles into the trip, Jason yelled "There's a cat in the road". By the time we were able to turn around and stop, the cat, actually a kitten, had made it to the other side and was laying very still, soaking wet and bleeding.

I held the kitten in my lap as we drove to the nearest emergency vet, which turned out to be almost an hour away. He started shivering as he warmed up and then he started purring. The vet checked him over and told us he was about 12 weeks old, there were no broken bones and no internal bleeding but there seemed to be some nerve damage on his front right leg. He didn't have a collar or microchip so we took him home so he could heal while we looked for his family.

Once home, I could see how filthy he was and that he was covered in fleas. If you don't know about the magic that is Dawn dish soap, let me tell you it's a great gentle shampoo and kills fleas. The picture to the left is after his bath but this is how he looked when we found him.

Jason and I spent the next 2 weeks checking for posters in the area we found the kitten, looking on Craigslist at all the lost cat ads checked with the local vets to see if anyone was missing a kitten. No one was looking for him. Of course we fell in love with this adorable kitten who isn't afraid of anything and decided to keep him.

We named him Goose and he was introduced to the rest of our fuzzy family. Our cats are mostly older and don't want to deal with a kitten but our dog, Mac aka the Macaroni Pony, is only 2 and has been hoping for a little sibling to play with. Goose and Mac hit it off right away and have been buddies since the day they met.

I decided Goose had the potential to be a great adventure cat and started taking him on outings to see how he would handle being out on the trail. Turns out, he was born to adventure.
