The Biking Disaster
It's important to take into account all the things that could go wrong on an adventure and NEVER take for granted things that were fine the last time you went out.
I decided to take Goose and Macapony out in the bike trailer....together.
I've taken Mac out several times on his own without incident so I foolishly disregarded his feelings about the trailer and figured he would be fine since he always had been. Of course this time was not okay.
Mac had been strapped in and riding backwards with his feet on top of the trailer as he usually does. This time Goose was riding in his backpack in the back of the trailer. Since this was the first time out with Goose, I decided to make it a short one and turned around after a mile and a half. That first leg went great, everyone thought Mac was so cute how he rides and one guy laughed out loud proclaiming it was an awesome sight to see.
With less than a mile to go, Mac decided to jump out of the trailer and luckily started prancing alongside while he was still strapped to the frame. I was so scared I would drag him, I slammed on the brakes and pulled everyone over to the side of the bike trail. I didn't have a leash for Mac since he wasn't supposed to get out of the trailer.
I thought fast and hooked him up to Goose's tiny 4 foot leash, made sure Goose was secure in the backpack in the trailer and started back. I was holding Mac's leash as he pulled me, Goose, bike and trailer down the path toward the woods. He had to go to the bathroom.
I thought we would be all set after that but Mac decided he was now scared of the bike and trailer. He refused to get back in and he went back and forth coming to me for protection and pulling away from the bike. I finally stopped and walked the bike for a while until he calmed down enough to try it again.
This time he trotted along next to the bike with no issues.
Goose, of course, had no problems with the entire excursion and was happily purring in his backpack as we pulled into the parking lot at the end of the bike path.
